Membership Information

Crosswinds Toastmasters is a fun way to stay in practice for speaking in front of people. It is one of the most inexpensive ways to learn more about leadership and communication. Each individual is responsible for their own learning and development. You can move as quickly or as slowly as you wish. Once you decide to join, there are several things that will happen.

  1. You will be given a new member packet which includes information about how the educational program works and more information about Toastmasters International.
  2. You will be assigned a mentor to help you as much or as little as you wish. Your mentor can answer any questions about the club, procedures, speeches, or anything else you want to know.
  3. You will be scheduled to give your Ice Breaker speech. This speech is a simple 4-6 minute speech to introduce yourself to the club. It is a way to help us get to know you and for us to evaluate your current speaking level and ability.
After these events, you are free to work through the beginning manual at your own pace. The educational program Toastmasters uses is called Pathways. Pathways materials are multimedia and are, by default online. However, a print version can be ordered as an alternative. You chose a path that focuses on the skills you think would be most helpful for yourself. The club then supports you in your journey!

The club atmosphere is designed to be informative and entertaining. Speech topics are not restricted; members are free to speak about whatever they wish. Speeches are evaluated on the effectiveness of communication, not the content of the speech. The goal of the club is to help each member improve the quality of their communication, both speaking and listening.

The club dues are very affordable at $90/year or $7.50/month on average. (Plus a one-time $20 new member fee.)

Most companies will provide membership sponsorship as professional development credit! Check with your company Human Resources department to find out if you qualify!
