Membership Information

Crosswinds Toastmasters is a fun way to stay in practice for speaking in front of people. It is one of the most inexpensive ways to learn more about leadership and communication. Each individual is responsible for their own learning and development. You can move as quickly or as slowly as you wish. Once you decide to join, there are several things that will happen.

  1. You will be given a new member packet which includes the Competent Communicator Manual, the Competent Leadership Manual, some speech development materials, and more information about Toastmasters International.
  2. You will be assigned a mentor to help you as much or as little as you wish. Your mentor can answer any questions about the club, procedures, speeches, or anything else you want to know.
  3. You will be scheduled to give your Ice Breaker speech. This speech is a simple 4-6 minute speech to introduce yourself to the club. It is a way to help us get to know you and for us to evaluate your current speaking level and ability.
After these events, you are free to work through the beginning manual at your own pace. The Competent Communicator Manual (CC) steps each member through the basics of public communication including topic selection, word selection, gestures, voice quality, visual aids, and more. The Competent Leadership Manual (CL) has projects to help members focus on elements of leadership including listening, organizing, and more. It is a parallel path manual to the CC and can be completed by attending and participating in meetings and club events.

The club atmosphere is designed to be informative and entertaining. Speech topics are not restricted; members are free to speak about whatever they wish. Speeches are evaluated on the effectiveness of communication, not the content of the speech. The goal of the club is to help each member improve the quality of their communication, both speaking and listening.

The club dues are very affordable at $72/year or $6/month on average.

Most companies will provide membership sponsorship as professional development credit! Check with your company Human Resources department to find out if you qualify!
