Crosswinds Toastmasters Club #7858 announces a Parliamentary Procedure Workshop using Robert’s Rules of Order will be held Thursday, January 26, from noon to 1 p.m. at the Marshalltown Public Library, 105 W. Boone St., room B.
The public is invited to attend the free-of-charge workshop, according to David Arnold, Crosswinds Club president. Veteran Toastmaster Melissa Niesen will conduct the training program.
Niesen will explain basic Parliamentary Procedure rules for conducting meetings and making decisions effectively. The one hour training session is ideal for local elected officials and citizens serving as officers or board members, explained Niesen. “Parliamentary procedure reduces or eliminates conflicts that might otherwise occur by following basic rules or order,” she said.
Basic principals of parliamentary procedure will also be reviewed.
Niesen will explain how all votes are counted equally, the right of the minority to protest, the right of the majority to decide, and that business transactions are characterized by fairness and good faith. “The workshop will be of value to both parliamentary procedure novices and veterans,” she said..
